There’s something incredibly special about witnessing a friend’s love story come full circle—especially when that friend was once your teammate on the high school swim team, and now you’re standing beside her as a bridesmaid on her wedding day. Kaitlin and I have been friends since high school, back when our biggest adventures were swim meets and Dairy Queen smoothie runs. Being part of her wedding day was such a special gift and honor.
And it wasn’t at just any venue—it was the Kentucky Derby Museum at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. From the rich, historic setting to the magical Harry Potter wedding inspiration details, it was a wedding filled with meaning, laughter, and felt like stepping into a storybook.

From the bride’s classroom to her wedding aisle, the wizarding world is simply part of who she is. She’s a middle school English teacher who brings stories to life daily, so it’s no surprise her wedding was full of gentle nods to beloved tales:
The details were not loud—they were deeply meaningful, layered into the day with care. For any couple dreaming of Harry Potter wedding inspiration without going full cosplay, this is how it’s done.

As a bridesmaid and friend, it was an emotional honor to stand by her side. And as a photographer, I had the added joy of capturing moments on 35mm film, giving the day a timeless, documentary feel.
The Churchill Downs wedding venue offers so much more than history—it offers soul. While the reception buzzed in the circular Rose Room, guests wandered museum exhibits between toasts and dances. It was experiential in the best way.
The reception took place in the iconic Rose Room, a circular space surrounded by exhibits and derby history. While guests danced, many also wandered through the museum—a truly unique way to keep the experience flowing and fun for everyone.

Though the ceremony was short and sweet, it was rich in meaning. As part of the couple’s Catholic faith, there were heartfelt readings, including one beautifully read by the bride’s dad. The couple made it simple and deeply personal while still honoring their faith and creating a warm foundation for everything that followed.

The bride is now a middle school English teacher who infuses her classroom with storytelling magic and even includes the world of Harry Potter in her curriculum. She’s one of those educators who makes reading feel magical, and this wedding was a beautiful mirror of that spirit. Watching her build a wedding that reflected that same wonder and whimsy felt like watching the perfect epilogue to her own love story.

The bride, like so many incredible educators, pours her heart into the classroom every day. And to every teacher planning a wedding: thank you for what you do. As a thank you for all the long hours you spend shaping curious, resilient young minds, I offer a 5% discount to all K-12 educators on wedding photography packages. It’s just a small way to say—you’re magic, too.

From the magical details to the museum dance floor, every part of this day was a celebration of who they are—playful, sincere, and full of love.

This wedding wasn’t flashy or huge—it was intentional, joyful, and overflowing with personal touches that made it feel exactly like the couple. From the literary nods to the heritage-rich venue, every detail felt grounded in who they are.
And for me? It was an honor to witness it, support my friend, and capture a little piece of that magic on film.
I’d be honored to help you craft a day that reflects your story—whether that includes Churchill Downs, a Hogwarts-worthy love, or a post-ceremony museum stroll with your guests.
